JACKSONVILLE - New week, same story:
That unsurprisingly has become a recurring theme with the Jaguars and the 2021 NFL Draft - at least at No. 1 overall.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, a consensus choice among analysts as the best prospect in this year's draft, remained that way this week - and he remains the consensus choice to be the No. 1 selection in late April.
This week's sixth 2021 jaguars.com mock draft tracker includes 11 analysts. All selected Lawrence. A few of their comments:
*Brentley Weissman of The Draft Network: "Lawrence is a rare prospect at the quarterback position and is the type of player that doesn't come around too often."
*Josh Edwards of CBS Sports: "[Jaguars Head Coach] Urban Meyer was very involved in Trevor Lawrence's Pro Day for a reason. It would be a surprise if he were not the No. 1 overall pick."
*Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports: "It's hard to envision the Jaguars doing anything but taking Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick."
*Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus: "Some around the league 'allegedly' view Zach Wilson as QB1 over Lawrence, but this decision is as much a no-brainer as the Jaguars will ever get."
*Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports: "Lawrence to the Jaguars is happening. They better not take all 10 minutes on the clock on draft night."
*Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports: "A lot will change in my mocks over the coming weeks. This won't. Trevor Lawrence will be the first pick in the draft, and it will be the Jaguars drafting him."
As for the Jaguars' No. 25 selection, many analysts continued to believe Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore is a strong possibility there. Four of 11 analysts projected Barmore to the Jaguars there.
"Jacksonville has taken three front-seven [defensive] players in as many drafts," Josh Edwards of CBS Sports wrote. "The selection of Christian Barmore will carry some expectations for that talented but young defensive line."
Other analysts focused on offensive line at No. 25, with Alabama offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, North Dakota State offensive tackle Dillon Radunz, Southern California offensive guard/center Alijah Vera-Tucker and Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins projected there.
"Nice value here for the Jags," Trapasso wrote of Leatherwood, with Weismann writing of Radunz, "He has the versatility to play left tackle, right tackle, or kick inside to guard."
Others projected as No. 25 were Texas Christian safety Trevon Moehrig, Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins and Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
"His versatility is what makes him such an exciting prospect," Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network wrote of Owusu-Koramoah, with Treash writing of Moehrig, "With his size, length, strength and superb play at the catch point, he is the clear-cut top safety in the class."
